The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is one of the largest in Tennessee with 45 schools, around 40,000 students, and 6,000 faculty and staff members. Recent events have been both tragic and difficult for many of our students and teachers.
The County Commission funds the school system, and Commissioner David Shelton supports public education at every level. It’s also important to listen to students and teachers as they navigate an increasingly difficult political and administrative climate.
In the last four years, the County Commission has funded, built, and opened three schools, with a fourth school (Freedom Elementary School) to open this year. We are also on the lookout for land for additional schools, all with support from Commissioner David Shelton.
Commissioner Shelton supports:
- Increasing safety features for school buses
- Reviewing policies regarding sexual predators
- Reviewing policies regarding bullying and cyberbullying
- Hiring more teachers
- Building more schools
- Support the well-being of ALL students, including marginalized minorities and LGBTQIA kids
- Use existing buildings to support after-school programs to keep kids out of trouble
- Ending the practice of banning books
