Commissioner David W. Shelton is a longtime resident of the Clarksville area and a proud resident of District 21. He grew up in the Kimbrough Road neighborhood and attended CMCSS schools through graduation at Clarksville High School in 1989. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Bethel University, and he continues to take every opportunity to become educated and informed on the issues that impact us every day here in Montgomery County.
He is a graphic designer, illustrator, writer, and author, and he frequently speaks on issues related to marginalized groups and LGBTQIA related issues. He believes that everyone deserves fair representation in government, and he works to listen and learn about what matters to all of us.
He delivered the Betty Joe Wallace lecture at Austin Peay State University in 2024. He has taught design, Photoshop, and photography classes for the APSU School of Community Arts.
In 2022, David was elected to the Montgomery County Commission. He was sworn in by his father, former judge Wayne C. Shelton. He is married to Koko Shelton, and they share a home together with their family and way too many dogs.
